Meet our Eco- Council!
At Blythefield, we believe that it is very important we look after the world around us. That's why we have an Eco-Council! We meet a few times a year to discuss important matters about how we can become more "Green". Watch this space for our amazing ideas coming to life...
Join Us for Walk to School Week!
Help us make a difference — for our planet and our health! This Walk to School Week, the Eco Council is encouraging everyone to leave the car at home and choose a greener way to travel. Walking (or biking/scooting!) not only reduces pollution, but it's also a great way to get active, enjoy fresh air, and connect with friends.
Let’s step up for the environment — one walk at a time!
Our Eco Council arranged for our KS2 pupils to be treated to a special performance by the Belfast City Council ECO team who used songs, dance and drama to highlight the impact litter can cause to our streets and environment if not disposed of properly. The Terrible Tales of Trash was an exceptional show!
We did it! In June, Mr Laffin and Miss O'Neil visited Stranmillis University with 2 Eco-Council members to accept our Green Flag! What an achievement! Well done to the whole school and the Eco -Council for your efforts this year 👏
Now that the warmer weather is starting to disappear, we have swapped out our Summer flowers for some that will be able to survive even the chilliest days and keep lots of colour around our school. 🌼 🌸 🌻 🌹 🏵
Every year, the Eco-Council harvest our delicious Rhubarb. I wonder what they will make this year?!
P6 had a visit from Pat from NI water. He taught us all about where water comes from and now, the Eco - Council are going to teach everyone else. He even gave us free water bottles for the whole school. Watch this space to see what we do with them!
Some of our winning Recycling Posters have been turned into all weather banners, thanks to our friends from BSCR! They are now in our school playground, so that children can be reminded of the importance of recycling.
This week was recycling ♻️ week! The Eco Council decided it would be a good idea to hold a Recycling Poster Competition. Pupils from P1 to P7 entered and the winners were picked and presented their award in assembly by our Eco Council. Take a look!
Welcome to Spring! 🌷 The whole school from P1 to P7 have been planting Daffodils and Hyacinths to welcome the Spring. Aren't they just fabulous? The children planted and are caring for these themselves. What a fantastic job they did! 🌼🌱
The Eco-Council have made a start on tidying up our garden, ready to plant bulbs for the Spring. We harvested lots of rhubarb too! Anybody in the mood for a yummy rhubarb crumble?
